Star Date May 21, 2020. The world has been in semi-quarantine lock down for over two months after Covid-19 turned into a worldwide pandemic. Distance learning started for D, on March 17. GSU went virtual about a week later. So, we’ve been stuck at home for months now, doing our best to not spread the virus, and not get infected ourselves.

And all this time, our youngest, J, has been at a program out in Utah. His program is also on lock down and not allowing visitors.

On April 27, 2020, Georgia’s Governor Kemp decided to lead the nation in a great experiment of starting to reopen the economy, get people back to work, and get life back to normal. Most of the rest of the country is starting to ease “social distancing” restrictions now too. It’s still too early to tell if this easing is too early or if the number of infections will keep/start going down.

With J all the way in Utah, we are anxious to get out there and spend some time with him…but I still don’t feel comfortable with us all getting on a plane, heading across the country, staying in a hotel, and then going out places in Utah to occupy our time while we are there.

And on top of that, we are all going stir crazy at home, especially our new high school graduate, D. We need to figure out someway to keep him occupied until he starts with Americorp later this Summer.

Enter the master plan (drum role please): We are renting a (very) little camper trailer and driving cross country to visit J (fingers crossed by the time we get there that his ranch will be open for visitors again!). It’ll be me, Sam, D, one of his friends, and our youngest dog, Patty. I’ve never been on a cross country road trip, we’ve never been camping as a family, and we’ve never towed anything before. So, this is going to be one grand adventure! What could go wrong???

To keep our friends at home entertained, I’ll try to keep the blog updated with our daily trials, tribulations, and many, many missteps. Stay tuned…
