It was another long driving day as we made our way across more states.

  • Missouri
  • Kansas
  • Iowa
  • (We could see Nebraska but never crossed into it)
  • South Dakota

The boys were amazed by all the big, wide open spaces and small old towns we drove through. Well ok, E was. D slept through it all.

Night #2 brings us to an adorable little private hobby farm in Davis, SD, Solace Farm. Solace Farm is listed on Hipcamp. Our hostess greeted us with a fresh loaf of bread she baked that day and a jar of homemade “strawberry margarita” jam. Yum!!https://www.hipcamp.com/south-dakota/wilson-s-solace-farm/solace-farm#arrive=2020-06-06&depart=2020-06-07

Abbott and Costello are the goats. They protect all the free range chickens. Our host told us to help ourselves to any new eggs they laid over night. Sadly the chickens decided to take a might off. No fresh eggs for us.

There was even a small playground made for adults out of antique farm equipment. Who could resist!

Sam and I did a short walk in the morning with Patty before we started breaking down camp and got the boys up.

The boys got in their obligatory insta photo shoot before we left.

What We're Eating:
Today was another long driving day, so breakfast was just pop tarts, a bagel, or cereal and lunch was in the car. But for dinner we enjoyed hotdogs and the leftover “Hamburger Helper.” Unfortunately it was way too windy so we couldn’t cook it over a fire and just had to do it on the camp stove.
Temperatures:
HOT! It stayed in the upper 90’s our whole drive and never dropped below mid 80’s overnight. But thankfully it was super windy and our site was shady. We didn’t have electricity at night but where we were was so remote that we just closed the screams and kept the trailer doors open for a nice breeze. So not too bad.

  1. Day 2- was the “ shot walk” a Freudian slip or fast finger error😳 The farm looks like a really fun spot for all ages and being off the grid is not bad if all places were like that!
