After picking up the little home away from home trailer (“HOFH”) yesterday, getting it all packed up, and Sam practicing backing up, we are finally underway!

Night #1 brings us to 370 Lakeside Park in the City of St. Peters, MO. https://www.stpetersmo.net/lakeside-park.

We drove through lots of states on Saturday:

  • Georgia
  • Tennessee
  • Kentucky
  • Illinois
  • Missouri

It’s a nice city park around the lake/reservoir… Without a stitch of shade and 97° heat. We got in around four or 5 CST and we’re immediately miserable setting up in the heat. The main side of the trailer was right in the direct sun. The boys stripped off their shirts and went fishing and threw the football around. As a Florida girl, you would’ve thought I would be good, but I retreated into the trailer with the overheating Patty dog and cranked the AC. I cooled down quickly enough to make dinner (my homemade “hamburger helper“ that I made at home and froze).

Thankfully it cooled off some when the sun went down. E went fishing while D swim across the lake to stay cool. It was still pretty hot for sleeping but we managed. Our second night on the road will still be a warm one but hopefully we will get some cool mountain temps after that when we get near Mount Rushmore on Monday night. Fingers crossed!

  1. At least one smile…Sam at take off in an a/c car. The heat
, not the camping may be the thing that will be most remembered. Enjoy the updates and the stats.
